The final user testing

We invited some young users and elderly users to experience the latest APP prototype. In the test, the users not only experienced the functions of the APP, but also needed to plan a trip using the APP’s travel puzzle function. From our observations, we found that most of the users were able to use the APP easily. However, some users had problems with the puzzle interface. They did not know how to do the first step when they opened the puzzle interface.

Feedback and Reflection

We have received many useful feedbacks from our testing, which will help us in our future design work as well.

1. When users use a new function for the first time, they may feel confused. Therefore, a guide or a help document is very necessary. When users learn a new function with the help of a guide, they will still feel a sense of achievement.

2. Designers should consider inclusive design when the target audience includes older users. Through this project, I found that the needs of younger users are actually taken into account when we design for older users. In my opinion, the key to inclusive design is that the designer should have empathy.In different user scenarios, designers should think more deeply about user pain points and come up with better design solutions.

3. In group travel, team communication can often influence the tourist experience. In the project, we found that users who had discussions during the pre-trip planning stage were more satisfied with the trip. Especially, they have positive emotions when their ideas are accepted by others. Increasing the opportunities for communication and making it more efficient are beneficial for improving relationships. If we face similar design scenarios in the future, improving the experience of communication could be a good solution.

In the future, I will continue to learn and work in the field of user experience design. As a UX designer, it is important for us to maintain empathy and continuous learning whatever the field we work in. New technologies are great tools for designers, and they can help designers to achieve experiences efficiently. However, designers should not be overly dependent on new technologies. In my opinion, the nature of UX design is emotional design. Designers should build good relationships between users and products, rather than using technology to simply complete users’ needs. Although the user’s needs should be met, designers should think about the problems behind their users and make the design sustainable.
